Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen appeared together as superpowered heroes in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War. Their next collaboration comes in a very different sort of movie.
Wind River debuted at the Sundance Film Festival this past January. Fandango’s Erik Davis described it as “a tense, captivating thriller that proves Taylor Sheridan is one of the most exciting emerging storytellers in years.”

Sheridan broke out big with his original screenplay for the acclaimed thriller Sicario, which was nominated for three Academy Awards. Last year, his script for the widely praised modern Western Hell or High Water bolstered his reputation as a gifted writer with an ear for dialogue and a nose for character. The movie received four Academy Award nominations, including one for Sheridan’s original screenplay.
Set in another distinctive location, Wind River follows a rookie FBI agent (Olsen) who teams up with a veteran game tracker (Renner) to solve a murder on a Native American reservation. Watch the first trailer below.
Olsen has had few opportunities to show her dramatic mettle in a lead role and it looks like she nails it in Wind River. Renner was terrific in Arrival last year and it’s always good to see him deliver what looks like a rough and rugged lead performance.
Jon Bernthal also stars. Wind River will open in theaters on August 4.
