A GENUINE lack of speed drawn around her has connections of Striker Light quietly confident their girl can take home the $250,000 first prize in the Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.
The Victorian has the knack of being a faultless beginner at the Glebe track, seemingly coming out under the lids.
Trainer Brett Bravo believes it’s Striker Light’s supreme confidence that enables her to get it right on box rise, and statistics back up his opinion with her only having tasted defeat once in six attempts at Wentworth Park.

“The first time I trialled her there she went super and she’s developed an affinity for the place ever since,’’ Bravo said. “This will be my 11th trip to Sydney this year.
“I’ve racked up over 20,000 kilometres on the speedo but it’s been totally worth it. There is some speed (dogs) drawn on her inside but if she can get a good run from box seven to the first turn, she’ll take some stopping as her second split time is amazing.’’
It will be Bravo’s second tilt at Sydney’s signature greyhound race, having combined with Kilty Lad in 2011 when he finished fifth to Radley Bale.
However, in Striker Light he has a greyhound who has tasted Group 1 glory, winning the National Futurity at Wentworth Park in March.
Golden Easter Egg betting with TAB Fixed Odds has Striker Light on the second line at $3.50 with fellow Victorian compatriot Up Hill Jill favoured at $2.60 from box two. Both girls remain unbeaten through their heat and semi-final and have built a strong rivalry this season.
The pair clashed in a heat of the Richmond Oaks last month with Striker Light packing too many guns for Up Hill Jill but in the final, a week later, were both upstaged by Mumma Josie.
The Golden Easter Egg has produced some stirring finishes for more than a quarter of a century and it would be fitting to see two quality chasers in Striker Light and Up Hill Jill vie for supremacy again.
