Update: A new trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody begins with preparations for a musical performance in front of a large, rocking crowd. Then it rewinds to explore the development of the rock band Queen.

Rami Malek portrays Freddie Mercury, who became the lead singer of the group and led them to stardom. It was a journey not without its troubles, as the trailer suggests. We also get a peek at Mercury’s private life and public tribulations.

UPDATE: The first trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody has just been released and it looks smashing! Rami Malek (TV’s Mr. Robot) stars as Freddie Mercury, lead singer of the famed rock band Queen; the film follows the band from their gritty origins to the top of the charts and beyond, as Mercury’s lifetyle spiralled out of control before the band reunited triumphantly on the eve of Live Aid. 

Watch the teaser below. Dexter Fletcher (Eddie the Eagle) stepped in for director Bryan Singer after the latter’s departure from the project late last year. Bohemian Rhapsody also has a new release date; it’s now slated to open in theaters on November 2, 2018.

Director Bryan Singer (X-Men Apocalypse) shared an amazing new photo of Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury (below) and it looks like a snapshot from a concert video of the famed singer during his glory days leading Queen. If those names are not instantly familiar to you, however, we’re here to help with a quick catch-up on the movie.


Who stars?

Rami Malek, who broke out big time in TV’s Mr. Robot, now in its third season. He’s been acting for more than 10 years, building up an impressive resume that includes roles in the Night at the Museum movies, TV series The Pacific, Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.

Who was Freddie Mercury?

Lead singer of Queen, a boisterous rock band that enjoyed international success starting in 1974. Their hits included “We Will Rock You,” “We Are the Champions” and “Another One Bites the Dust.” Mercury was known for his incredible voice and flamboyant stage presence. He died in 1991 at the age of 45.

Wait, that title sounds familiar…

The year after Mercury died, “Bohemian Rhapsody” was featured in the hit comedy Wayne’s World, which helped to renew interest in Queen.


What period does the movie cover?

The musical biography will follow the band from their formation in 1970 to 1985, perhaps including a recreation of Queen’s epic performance at the Live Aid benefit concert that year.


Who else is in the movie?

Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy and Joseph Mazzello are set to play the other three members of Queen during their glory years. The cast also includes Aidan Gillen and Lucy Boynton. In September, we heard that Mike Myers (Wayne’s World) was in negotiations to join the fun.

Who is directing?

Bryan Singer. He is best known, of course, for directing X-Men: Apocalypse and other blockbuster action movies, but he’s also helmed thrillers such as The Usual Suspects and Valkyrie, as well as producing a variety of television shows,

When will Bohemian Rhapsody open in theaters?

December 25, 2018.
