Lawes named Prem player of the month

Northampton Saints forward Courtney Lawes has been named the Aviva Premiership player of the month for September.

Lawes — who has rediscovered his best form in 2017 after strong outings in the Six Nations for England and on the British & Irish Lions tour of New Zealand — was pivotal in helping Saints record four wins on the bounce to sit near the top of the Premiership standings.

Lawes edged out Newcastle Falcons’ Juan Pablo Soncino and his Saints’ team-mate Tom Collins for the award.

It’s the first time a Northampton player has picked up the Premiership player of the month gong since Teimana Harrison in April of last year.
