Jenna Lyons Is Having a Closet Sale on the Internet

As the former creative director of J. Crew and living embodiment of the J.Crew woman, Jenna Lyons has cultivated a trademark style that pairs the brand’s preppy, minimalist aesthetic with bold prints and vibrant colors. Leopard and seersucker! Pink lipstick and houndstooth! Most recently, Lyons has teamed up with the luxury consignment site TheRealReal to sell some of her favorite pieces straight from her coveted wardrobe.

Lyons’ decision to downsize her closet sparked after realizing she needed to both purge her closet—and let go of the sentimental value attached to certain items.

“Each piece represents a memory, an event marked. I found myself holding on to the clothes for the meaning and not spending enough time actually wearing them,” she said in a statement. Shedding the skin of her former position at J. Crew and transitioning into another stage of her career, Lyons felt it was time to “to let someone else love them.”

Of course, cleaning out her closet wasn’t entirely her own idea. “My dear friend Sarah Clary came over, opened her eyes wide and burst into hysterical laughter. Then muttered, “Girl, you got to sell some of this shit,” she recalls.

Lyons has put up over 187 pieces on sale, ranging from exclusive J. Crew collector’s items to rare designer finds like a powder pink Miu Miu shearling coat and a red asymmetrical Prada gown.
