Anna Faris on Kate Spade Handbags and Playing Hard to Get Dating Advice

Anna Faris is awesome and everyone knows it, including Kate Spade. The label devoted to arm candy just gave the actress free reign over a series of kooky short films, and the results are way better than any commercial-disguised-as-content should be. Co-starring Rosie Perez and filmed on a fake airplane, the shorts show the actresses traveling—badly—together.

You can watch them below, but first read our exclusive chat with the actress, because—as previously stated—she’s awesome.

This is your first fashion campaign—but it’s not exactly glamorous. You’re stuck in the middle seat of an airplane…

It was an actual dissected plane they had in a movie studio, like a real plane that was somehow cut in half. It was very surreal, to be honest.

And your seatmate is Rosie Perez.

The best person to sit with! We actually did a lot of improve during the shoot, and she’s an amazing comedian because she just goes with it. Honestly, that’s why I wanted to be a part of this. With so much of the other stuff I do, you have to stick to an agenda—you know, a schedule, a shot list. With Rosie, it felt like, “this is crazy, this is kooky, we get to do whatever we want.” There was a lot of room to play. And the bonus was, we got to use handbags that looked like piñatas. I was dying.

You became a movie star in the early 2000s—right when Kate Spade became a big deal. Did you have an old-school rectangle one back in the day?

You know, the very first bag I was ever gifted was this beautiful blue Kate Spade bag. It’s weird to get gifted things as an actress, because it usually happens when you’ve made a movie and you can finally afford something, and then these fashion labels give it to you for free. I felt like I had to really take care of this bag, because it was so beautiful and it was a gift. I have a lot of sentiment about Kate Spade because of that… and also, the vibe of Kate Spade is a little quirky, like I am. Do you think they’ll be mad I said that?

Piñata handbags are quirky!

Oh, they also make a bag that looks like a pineapple. I’m telling you, when I got to the set, I was mesmerized. They pull out these bags that look like pieces of fruit and I’m like, “What is happening right now?” I couldn’t stop laughing, trying to put the pineapple bag in the overhead bin. It was absurd.

This is a weird question, but what’s it like traveling while famous?

It’s probably kind of boring, to be honest. But I think it’s easier and harder. It’s easier in terms of people being nice to your face. They’ll help you put your bag up on the overhead bin. But there’s a feeling of additional eyes on you, all the time. And you can’t really escape it.

And they show ‘What’s Your Number’ or ‘Jurassic World’ on every flight. It’s like you and your husband’s heads are on everyone’s seatback.

Yeah, I know! And even if I like the movie, I’m not watching a movie of mine or Chris [Pratt]’s just in case somebody walks past the aisle! “She’s watching her own movie! She’s as self-centered as I thought!” Do I sound gross? I know traveling now is so stressful for everybody.

No, you sound honest.

When I travel, it makes me wish I looked completely polished all the time. I don’t. I live in sweats.
